Baku:United Nations Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, delivered a briefing to the UN Security Council on the latest developments in Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh highlighted significant progress in Libya's political process, noting the 4+4 committee agreement as a major breakthrough with broad international backing. The agreement is seen as an actionable path forward in the political landscape.
Despite the progress, Tetteh pointed out that the High Council of State's rejection of the agreement indicates some members are not yet ready to engage in the political process. They have requested additional time for consultation to advance discussions, particularly concerning the 4+4 committee's agreement.
Tetteh also addressed economic challenges, revealing that 30% to 40% of subsidized fuel in Libya is diverted to smuggling, resulting in losses exceeding $4.4 billion.
