TRIPOLI- U.S. Ambassador To Libya, Richard Norland Reaffirmed U.S. Partnership With The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) As It Assumes Its Non-Political Mandate To Allow Libyans To Exercise Their Sovereign Right To Choose Their Leaders Through Fair And Transparent Elections. This Came During The Virtual Meeting Held On Wednesday Between The President Of The High National Elections Commission Dr. Imad Al-Saeeh And Ambassador Richard Norland, Which Focused On Discussing U.S. Support For The Commission As Libya Prepares To Hold National Elections On December 24, 2021, In Accordance With The Agreement Of The Forum For Libyan Political Dialogue Facilitated By The United Nations.

According to the U.S. Embassy's official website, a reference to the reaffirmation of the democratic transition of power in the United States, the Ambassador reiterated the U.S. partnership with HNEC as it exercises its non-political mandate to allow Libyans to exercise their sovereign right to choose their leaders through fair and transparent elections.

The U.S. ambassador welcomed the real efforts through the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to resolve long-standing constitutional issues related to elections. "We are confident that these efforts will meet the will of the Libyan people - east, west and south - to improve their lives by forming a unified interim executive authority that will provide better governance and prepare for successful national elections in December," he said.
