Tunisia, Tunisia has offered to launch a digital application to facilitate cross-border clearing operations, issue joint credit cards, and intensify the work of electronic payment with Libya.

The Tunisian offer came from the governor of its central bank, Marwan Al-Abbasi, during a speech at the “Building Digital Libya” summit, which was convened at the initiative of the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies, in cooperation with the Libyan General Authority for Communications and Informatics.

In his speech, the governor of the Bank of Tunisia stressed need for bilateral cooperation with the governor of the Central Bank of Libya Al Sidiq Al Kabir in several areas, manily in exchange of experiences in the field of the experimental regulatory environment, development of infrastructure and means of payment.

He highlighted consensus around participation of the Central Bank of Tunisia in establishing An experimental control environment in the Central Bank of Libya, by transferring the experiences gained in this field, in addition to preparing to launch a digital application that uses block chain technology to facilitate cross-border clearing operations between banks.

With regard to developing the field of infrastructure and means of payment, Al-Abassi believes that it is possible to work on reviving the project of issuing Tunisian-Libyan joint credit cards, to promote electronic payments for Tunisian users when they came to Libya and Libyans when they visit Tunisia.

The “Building Digital Libya Summit” was held between October 26 and 28 in Tunis, as part of efforts to develop and advance communications and information technology sector in Libya, an event chaired by the League of Arab States in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication Technologies in Tunisia and the General Authority for Telecommunications and Informatics in Libya.
