Tripoli Celebrates World Water Day and Empowerment of Agricultural Women

Tripoli: A celebration of World Water Day, coinciding with the International Year of Women in Agriculture 2026, was held today at the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli. The event, which brought together ministers and representatives from national and international organizations, aimed to highlight water resource management and enhance the role of women in the agricultural sector. According to Libyan News Agency, the celebration was organized by the Ministry of Water Resources of the Government of National Unity, in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock, and Environment, and the Office of the Minister of State for Women's Affairs. It was supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the "Marwat 2" project, which supports decision-making and improves irrigation water productivity in Libya. The program included official speeches emphasizing national priorities for supporting water and agriculture and empowering women. A memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of soil, irrigation, and agricultural extension. Specialized presentations and a dialogue session discussed the role of women in water and agricultural resource management. The event concluded with recommendations to strengthen partnerships and joint efforts to achieve sustainability.
