The Secretariat of the Council of Ministers discusses with a UN official the support of the national effort to strengthen the rule of law in Iraq

The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers discussed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to support the national effort to strengthen the rule of law in Iraq.

The Secretariat stated in a statement: “The Director General of the Empowerment of Iraqi Women in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Yusra Karim Mohsen, met with the official of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq, Michelle Kimanzi, and during the meeting, they discussed joint cooperation files between the two sides.”

Karim reviewed the most prominent activities, plans and programs that the Commission can contribute to, especially with regard to the legal aspects of the status of women in Iraq, such as protection from violence and confronting discrimination based on gender.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold a preparatory meeting, next month, that includes representatives of the executive, legislative, and judicial authorities, civil society organizations, opinion leaders, and specialists in the human rights and legal fields. In order to formulate effective programs that are consistent with the national strategy for Iraqi women, the UN goals for sustainable development, and international decisions.
