The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed its intention to host the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, soon in the committee, in response to the collapse of the electrical system and the decline in supply hours despite the financial allocations to the ministry.

The Head of the Committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, said in a statement, “The Ministry of Electricity continues to accumulate failure in reforming the energy sector. The Ministry has only made more promises, which the Iraqi people in all governorates have not found any echo, especially with the increasing temperatures.”

He added, “We in the Parliamentary Finance Committee were keen to provide the necessary financial allocations for the Ministry of Electricity in the 2023-2025 budget. In return, the Minister pledged to provide good electrical equipment, different from previous years in the summer season, but so far we have not noticed any real change. Rather, the situation is going from bad to worse, as the national system is witnessing an unprece
dented collapse, while the Ministry stands as a spectator to the suffering of our people and their chronic tragedy with electricity, which is supposed to be a top priority for the Ministry and its current Minister to reform this sector.”

He continued, “While we call on the Ministry to find urgent solutions to address the crisis and alleviate the suffering of citizens, we confirm that the Finance Committee will work to host the Minister of Electricity at the beginning of the new legislative session to determine the reasons for this collapse, and after that we will have a firm position towards this ongoing failure,” he said.
