Tripoli: UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General Hanna Tetteh emphasized that respect for victims’ rights is crucial for successful reconciliation. She addressed this during a Presidential Council workshop focused on the role of victims and their families in national reconciliation efforts in Tripoli, attended by several stakeholders and those involved in justice and reconciliation initiatives.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh highlighted the necessity for reconciliation to be anchored in a rights-based, victim-centered transitional justice process. She noted the importance of genuine participation from victims and their families, stressing that their concerns and experiences must be respected.
Tetteh asserted that any sustainable reconciliation process requires a foundation of justice and fairness, ensuring that victims’ voices are heard. She affirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting national efforts to build a comprehensive reconciliation process that fosters security and stability for all Libyans.
