Tripoli: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, alongside her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, recently held a meeting with 26 representatives of civil society organizations from various regions including Tripoli, Sabratha, Misrata, Zawiya, Sirte, Sabha, Tarhona, and Ghat. The meeting aimed to provide updates on the latest political and security developments in the country, as well as the UN Mission’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions. Additionally, the meeting addressed the outcomes of the recent International Follow-Up Committee on Libya held in Berlin, which supports the UN-facilitated political process.
According to Libyan News Agency, the UN Mission reported that participants underscored the necessity of advancing comprehensive security sector reform in tandem with the political process. They also highlighted the importance of incorporating accountability mechanisms within any proposed political roadmap.
Furthermore, the women participants collectively endorsed the Advisory Committee’s recommendation to increase women’s representation in legislative bodies to 30 percent. They also engaged in discussions on strategies to boost women’s active participation in the broader electoral process.
