Tetteh Briefs Dbeibah on Roadmap Progress for Advancing Libya’s Political Process

Tripoli: The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, briefed the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, on Sunday regarding the latest developments in the roadmap aimed at advancing the political process. The roadmap seeks to end the current stalemate and lead to direct elections and the unification of institutions. The briefing emphasized implementing the initial phases related to the electoral and legal framework.

According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh explained that the recent mini-meeting launched by the mission is part of the first phase of the roadmap. It focuses on finalizing the electoral laws and completing the formation of the board of directors of the High National Elections Commission. These steps are essential for transitioning to elections and providing the necessary institutional foundation for their success.

Dbeibah affirmed his government's support for all serious efforts aimed at achieving practical and implementable solutions that preserve national gains toward establishing a civil state. He stressed the importance of focusing on realistic paths that lead to the clear enactment of electoral laws and a direct move to elections, ensuring respect for the popular will and ending the institutional division.

Dbeibah indicated that the national priority is reaching a clear and applicable electoral framework that paves the way for national elections, thereby strengthening stability and preserving the unity of institutions and the sovereignty of the state.

Tetteh confirmed the continued work of the UN mission to support consensus among Libyan parties and to provide the appropriate conditions for the success of the political process and the achievement of a comprehensive electoral milestone.
