Tripoli: Syria has expressed its approval of the recent decision by Libya’s Government of National Unity to exempt Syrian citizens from residency fines until the end of 2025. This move is aimed at easing the financial burden on Syrians residing in Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement welcoming this initiative, highlighting it as a testament to the strong fraternal ties between Syria and Libya. The Ministry emphasized that this decision underscores Libya’s support for the Syrian community and its dedication to simplifying the residency process and other official transactions for Syrians.
Earlier this year, on August 1, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an official delegation to Tripoli. This delegation was tasked with regularizing the legal status of Syrian citizens and offering urgent consular services to improve their circumstances. In conjunction with this visit, the Syrian Embassy in Tripoli reopened on August 20, marking the end of a closure lasting over 13 years.
On August 28, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an agreement between its Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani, and Libya’s Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs. The agreement aimed to expedite procedures for exempting the Syrian community in Libya from fines related to residency violations, further solidifying the cooperative efforts between the two nations.
