Speaker of the House Engages with UN Representatives on Libya’s Political Progress

Tripoli: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, met today with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her deputy, Stephanie Khoury, to discuss the latest political developments in the country and ways to advance the political process to end the current crisis.

According to Libyan News Agency, during the meeting, the Speaker affirmed the House of Representatives' firm position on the necessity of achieving stability through a consensual democratic process. He stressed the importance of supporting international efforts aimed at creating the appropriate conditions for holding presidential and parliamentary elections, in fulfillment of the aspirations of the Libyan people.

For her part, Tetteh commended the role of the House of Representatives in advancing the political process. She affirmed the UN's commitment to continuing to provide support and mediation to bridge the differences between the Libyan parties, in order to ensure the preservation of the country's unity and stability.
