Shakshak and Khoury Discuss Oversight and Transparency Measures in Tripoli

Tripoli: The President of the Libyan Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, held a meeting on Wednesday with Stephanie Khoury, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and her accompanying delegation to discuss measures aimed at enhancing effective oversight of public funds and supporting the principles of transparency.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on the role of the Audit Bureau in promoting effective oversight of public funds, along with supporting transparency, accountability, and combating corruption. These elements are crucial for good governance, as they help protect the state’s public resources and improve spending efficiency.

Representatives from the UN mission highlighted the importance of maintaining the independence and impartiality of the Bureau. They noted that such independence directly impacts the strengthening of oversight work and ensures the objectivity and transparency of the Bureau’s reports.

Additionally, the mission praised the Bureau’s efforts in launching the National Anti-Corruption Strategy in collaboration with the National Anti-Corruption Authority. This strategy marks a significant advancement in the process of enhancing transparency and integrity within state institutions.

The discussions also covered the UN envoy’s recent briefing to the UN Security Council, where she lauded the strategy’s launch and reiterated the UN’s support for its execution. The envoy emphasized that the plan’s success hinges on political will, reinforcing the independence of oversight bodies, and consolidating transparency and integrity in managing public funds.

During her visit, Khoury also met with several members and employees of the Court, providing them with moral support and acknowledging their continuous efforts to improve institutional performance and elevate the level of oversight work.
