Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir asserted the cement sector is one of the most important, key industrial sectors in national economy.

This vital sector is mainly contributing to providing basic needs of infrastructure projects and urban projects, he added in remarks during the inauguration of the 26th Arab International Cement and Building Materials Conference and Exhibition (AICCE26) on Monday.

Egypt is considered an important producer of cement in the region and the biggest cement producer in Africa, Samir said.

Egypt is included in a list of the ten largest countries that produce cement all over the world with a total production capacity of about 92 million tons of cement annually, according to him.

Samir pointed out the conference is important as the Egyptian government is keen on attaining complete harmony with sustainable development goals in all production sectors, with special focus on the industrial domains in defiance of climate change along with reducing harmful carbon emissions in a
ccordance with the global roadmap in this regard.

The conference is offering a significant opportunity for exchanging viewpoints and getting acquainted with the latest developments of the cement industry at both the Arab and international levels, he further said.

The conference convenes amid global economic turmoil and extraordinary conditions reflected by the regional economic scene and serious repercussions of consecutive crises for growth and production levels, he said, stressing the necessity of achieving Arab industrial integration, boosting regional partnership among Arab countries, activating the role of the private sector and achieving prosperity and welfare to peoples in the Arab region.

In turn, Chairman of the Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials (AUCBM) Prince Nayef Bin Sultan underscored the cement sector witnessed a greater development in Arab countries in recent years and contributed to providing national needs and promoting exportation to foreign markets.
