Tripoli: The Public Prosecution has detained 68 defendants, including public employees and beneficiaries, in cases of falsifying civil status data. The detention order targets individuals accused of forgery related to family records in the civil registry.

According to Libyan News Agency, this development followed two decisions by the Public Prosecutor. These decisions included forming committees to investigate forgery cases within the jurisdiction of all appeal courts and organizing a committee to oversee judicial and administrative activities within the investigation committees.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed that representatives examined the validity of the records of 10,620 families and verified data on Libyan origin in 6,990 cases. They identified 292 national identification numbers that should be deleted. Public prosecution was initiated against individuals accused of committing 3,130 forgery cases in civil registry documents, residence permits, and transfers.

The Public Prosecution continues to conduct investigations and verifications. To date, the investigation of 246 cases has been completed, distributed among the offices of public prosecutors throughout the country. This has resulted in the filing of criminal cases against 68 defendants in pretrial detention, with substantial evidence against them, including public employees and beneficiaries.
