Kampala: Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni emphasized that the solution in Libya cannot be military, advocating for inclusive dialogue as the only path to lasting peace, and underscoring the need for elections to restore legitimacy to Libyan institutions.

According to Libyan News Agency, Museveni’s remarks were made while chairing a virtual meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, over which Uganda holds the presidency this July. He highlighted Africa’s pivotal role in supporting reconciliation efforts in Libya.

In his address, President Museveni stated that the Libyan crisis “requires a radical political solution,” pointing out that continued conflicts will only lead to more division and suffering. He stressed, “The path to true stability lies through the ballot box, with the participation of all Libyans without exclusion.”

Museveni proposed a seven-point plan to achieve stability in Libya. This plan emphasizes the necessity of consolidating a ceasefire, ensuring the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries, and providing a secure environment for transparent elections under international and regional supervision.
