Tripoli, Today, Monday in Tobruk, the House of Representatives held a session chaired by the Speaker-designate “Fawzi Al-Nuiri” and attended by (120) deputies devoted to discussing the electoral process and the reasons for the failure of holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on time according to the map of the Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva on the 24th December.

After the short opening session, the Council held a closed session, during which security and intelligence reports on the electoral process were presented, which were described as sensitive to its relationship to national security, submitted by the General Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Interior and its affiliated agencies.

In a public evening session, the events of which were televised, the head of the parliamentary committee in charge of communicating with the Electoral Commission and the parties related to the electoral process reviewed a report on the committee’s findings and recommendations in particular.

In this session, members of the House of Representatives discussed what was stated in the report of the committee charged with following up on the elections, as well as what was included in the security reports, and the report of the High National Elections Commission, about its technical and logistical observations, and its justifications for not meeting the deadline for holding the elections, holding the Electoral Commission responsible for the failure to conduct the elections on December 24, due to its non-compliance with the implementation of Elections Law No. (1) and its amendments issued by the House of Representatives

The interventions of the representatives during this session focused on many demands and suggestions, including summoning the presidency of the High National Elections Commission to clarify the reasons for the failure of the electoral process, and the reasons that prevented its publication of the final list of candidates for the presidential elections, as well as addressing the commission to the House of Representatives in the event that it is unable to fulfill its obligations contained in its proposal of the new date for the elections before January 24th.

Some deputies demanded the necessity of defining a road map to reach specific dates for the parliamentary and presidential elections.

A number of members of the House of Representatives pointed out that what was stated in the intelligence reports, which must be presented to the Libyan people, shows that holding the elections on January 24 is almost a miracle, calling for the follow-up of these security reports received from the Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Interior because the information they contained was described as dangerous that affects Libyan National security.
