Benghazi: The House of Representatives convened an official session chaired by Speaker Counselor Aguila Saleh, with the participation of first deputies Fawzi al-Nuwairi and Misbah Doma. The session focused on significant legislative matters, including a proposal concerning the Libyan Army’s leadership powers, and resulted in key decisions impacting national security and public policy.
According to Libyan News Agency, the House discussed a proposal endorsed by over seventy representatives, aiming to amend Law No. (1) of 2015, which delineates the powers of command levels within the Libyan Army. The proposal received unanimous approval, as confirmed by House spokesman Abdullah Blihaq. Additionally, the House unanimously voted to appoint Lieutenant General Abdul Razzaq al-Nathouri as the National Security Advisor, enhancing the strategic oversight of national defense matters.
The session also included a review of the draft public debt law. The House decided to forward this draft to the Constitutional and Legislative Committee along with the Planning, Finance, and General Budget Committee for further deliberation and evaluation.
Addressing the pressing issue of the country’s electricity crisis, the House discussed strategies under the “Other Business” agenda item. They agreed to delegate the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to engage with key figures, including Counselor Aguila Saleh, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Electricity appointed by the House, and specialists from the electricity sector. The objective is to devise solutions to alleviate the ongoing energy challenges.
The Energy Committee is expected to compile a comprehensive report with recommendations to resolve the electricity crisis, which will be presented to the House for further action. The session was adjourned, set to resume the following day, to continue addressing the various issues on the legislative agenda.
