NUG and Boeing Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Develop Libya’s Civil Aviation Sector

Tripoli: The Government of National Unity signed a memorandum of understanding for strategic cooperation with the American company Boeing to develop the civil aviation sector in Libya. The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Transportation and Financial Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, during the official visit of the Government of National Unity delegation to the United States.

According to Libyan News Agency, the memorandum aims to develop the civil aviation sector in Libya by modernizing the aircraft fleet, supporting programs to acquire modern aircraft, enhancing technical and technological cooperation, and contributing to the development of the aviation sector's infrastructure in accordance with approved international standards.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Senior Advisor to the US President, Massad Boulos, who, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of strengthening the Libyan-American partnership. He praised the progress achieved on the economic front, particularly the progress towards unifying the national budget, and considered the agreement a starting point for broader cooperation in the areas of development and investment.

Both sides affirmed that this memorandum represents a significant step towards developing Libya's air transport sector and enhancing its operational and technical efficiency, thereby contributing to improved air service quality, enhanced regional and international connectivity, and support for the country's economic development efforts.

The government delegation included Minister of Economy and Trade Suhail Abu Shiha, Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects Mustafa Al-Manea, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Investment Authority Ali Mahmoud.
