Norland and Shea Affirm U.S. Support for UNSMIL’s Mission in Libya

New York: The US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, has confirmed America’s backing of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) during a recent meeting with the new Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Hannah Tetteh. The meeting, which included the Acting Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Ambassador Dorothy Shea, took place last Monday.

According to Libyan News Agency, Ambassador Norland shared details of the meeting through a tweet from the US Embassy in Libya’s account on the platform X. He stated, “We congratulated Ms. Tetteh on her appointment and confirmed the United States’ support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in its mission to facilitate a political process that leads to achieving unity and stability for Libya and its people.”

The United States’ reaffirmation of support comes at a crucial time as UNSMIL continues its efforts to foster political dialogue and reconciliation in Libya. The mission aims to bring about lasting peace and stability in the region, which has been marred by conflict and division for years.
