Rabat: The GNU Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Mabrouka Togui, recently engaged in discussions with Eric Falt, the Regional Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office for the Maghreb region. The talks focused on the registration of Libyan cultural sites on the World Heritage List and the preparation of files for nominating intangible cultural heritage for classification on UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Conference of Ministers Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World, held in Rabat, Morocco. The discussions also included plans to enhance cooperation between the ministry and UNESCO in the fields of culture and heritage. Both parties expressed intentions to organize a joint Maghreb symposium dedicated to heritage and culture in crises, scheduled for the first half of this year. Additionally, the collaboration aims to facilitate training courses in Libya, led by UNESCO experts, focusing on heritage preservation and management.
