Maait: Sisi directs to expedite full implementation of comprehensive health insurance system

Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, the head of the Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA), said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed to expedite putting into effect the comprehensive health insurance system for all Egyptians after applying it so far in the governorates of Port Said, Ismailia, Luxor and South Sinai.

In a statement on Saturday 22/06/2024, Maait said the comprehensive health insurance system has proved its efficiency with 4.6 million people benefiting from it in the four governorates, noting that the state bore EGP 2.8 billion subscription fees of poor people in these governorates.

He noted that the system will be expanded to Aswan and Suez by the beginning of the 2024-2025 fiscal year despite the harsh international, regional and local challenges.

Maait noted that the financial indicators of the system reflects its ability to secure needed financial inflows, adding that the state managed to secure total reserves of EGP 120.7 billion to proceed with the successful drive of putting the sy
stem into effect in all governorates.

Minister Maait asserted that the private sector is a key partner in this system which aims to offer quality medical services in all health domains.
