Al-jufra: The College of Natural Resources at Al-Jufra University hosted a significant scientific awareness lecture titled “Reading the National Vision for Protected Areas and Bridging the Gap between Local Visions and International Standards.” The lecture was presented by Dr. Munim Al-Wafi Barani, who serves as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Al-Abyar, University of Benghazi, and is a specialist in wildlife reserves.
According to Libyan News Agency, the lecture covered several crucial topics, including defining the concept of reserves and their environmental and cultural significance, as well as discussing methods for managing and protecting these areas. It also examined mechanisms for classifying reserves according to international standards and the challenges they face in Libya. Particular attention was paid to the lack of sufficient community awareness and the pressing requirement for coordinated efforts between local and international institutions.
Dr. Barani, in
a statement to the Libyan News Agency, highlighted that the organization of these lectures, which have been conducted in areas such as Zalla and Al-Jufra and are planned to expand to Sabha, Traghen, and other regions in southern Libya, is intended to promote the culture of nature reserves. The aim is to facilitate the exchange of ideas among specialists, academics, and those invested in environmental issues. He emphasized that reserves are a vital component of both the environment and the nation’s cultural heritage, stressing the necessity of their protection and preservation.
The event saw extensive participation from members of environmental associations and organizations focused on nature and wildlife. Engaging discussions were held on the importance of developing a contemporary national concept for reserves, along with generating visions and recommendations that will help shape a more sustainable future for Libya’s reserves.
