Libyan Scientific Authority Prepares for Joint Research on Beach Pollution with TœBITAK

Tripoli: Faisal Al-Abdali, Director General of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, engaged in discussions today concerning the final preparations for an upcoming joint research initiative with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TœBITAK). The project, titled 'Plastic and Microplastic Pollution on the Beaches of Western Libya,' aims to address critical environmental concerns.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Abdali's discussions involved Wael Khalifa Al-Harari, head of the Libyan team for the joint research project, and Basim Abdulkarim Balqasim, who is coordinating the joint cooperation agreement with the Turkish side. The meeting focused on establishing the mechanisms necessary for initiating fieldwork and research activities. Additionally, they discussed arranging the forthcoming visit of the Turkish research team to Libya. These efforts are intended to ensure successful collaboration between the two teams and the achievement of the project's intended goals.

The Authority emphasized that this project aligns with its strategy to bolster environmental research, particularly in assessing and protecting Libyan beaches. It also highlights the significance of international collaborations in sharing expertise, facilitating knowledge transfer, and enhancing national research capabilities to tackle current environmental challenges.
