Benghazi: The Libyan Red Crescent is actively conducting extensive efforts in Benghazi and its suburbs in response to a recent storm that struck the area. The Central Operations Room of the Libyan Red Crescent has confirmed its continued humanitarian and field operations, maintaining a high level of readiness to address the aftermath and swiftly respond to citizens' reports. The situation comes after the weather gradually returned to normal, following a stormy day that resulted in scattered damage and several emergencies.
According to Libyan News Agency, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the emergency and ambulance teams of the Libyan Red Crescent in Benghazi intensified their operations within the city through the Central Operations Room system. The teams responded to numerous emergency reports, showcasing commitment and discipline from volunteers along with continuous field monitoring in various areas.
The media and communications officer at the Benghazi office, Mohamed Wael, explained that the Red Crescent teams initiated their duties in accordance with established procedures. They responded promptly to reports and heightened readiness levels to protect lives and property, particularly during the storm's peak.
Interventions included a fire incident at the "Gian Market" mall in the Garyounis area, transporting a fainting person to the central clinic, and addressing the collapse of poles, signs, and walls in several locations such as the Sports City roundabout, Al-Baraka Square, the Al-Ahly Garyounis Club roundabout, and the Tripoli Road.
The teams also attended to the collapse of a house wall behind the Benghazi lighthouse in the Khreibish area, which resulted in the death of a young man. The body was transported as per established procedures. Additionally, a natural death was recorded in the Al-Kish (Al-Sabala) area, and a person experiencing shortness of breath was transported from the Shabna area to Benghazi Medical Center for necessary care.
Reports also included the removal of a fallen tree from the main road in the Daqadusta area to ease traffic flow, as well as attending to a traffic accident in the Al-Salam neighborhood. Other interventions focused on removing obstacles and securing locations to ensure public safety.
The Libyan Red Crescent's Central Operations Room confirmed its sustained high readiness level and constant field presence, coinciding with the improvement in weather conditions and the return to stability. It emphasized its ongoing commitment to fulfilling its humanitarian and national duty in serving the city of Benghazi and its residents.
