Tripoli: The Ministry of Defense in the Government of National Unity is engaging in discussions with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Libya to explore potential areas for joint cooperation. This initiative aims to address issues related to mine action and enhance technical and operational capabilities.
According to Libyan News Agency, a consultative meeting took place this morning at the Ministry of Defense, involving the Ministry's Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Office and UNMAS. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Weapons and Ammunition Department and the Military Engineering Department of the General Staff. The discussions focused on cooperation in capacity building and technical support, adhering to international standards and human rights.
UNMAS expressed its readiness to offer necessary training and technical programs to assist the Military Engineering Department in the disposal of explosive remnants of war. Additionally, it aims to support the Weapons and Ammunition Department in enhancing its capacity for safe storage operations.
It is noted that the Ministry's Code of Conduct regulates the movement of weapons, requiring prior instructions from the highest level for any such actions.
