Tripoli: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity has expressed strong objections to any meetings addressing Libyan affairs held without the participation of Libyan representatives. The Ministry emphasized its stance following news of a tripartite consultative meeting planned in the Republic of Tunisia, involving Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria, alongside the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Ministry released a statement underscoring its reservations about discussions or consultations concerning Libya taking place without the official representation of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry highlighted the importance of its involvement in any dialogues about Libya's political future, security, and stability, asserting that it is the legitimate body concerned with these matters.
The Ministry acknowledged the historical and fraternal ties with neighboring countries, asserting that any regional or international efforts to support a political solution in Libya must respect Libyan sovereignty and independence. The Ministry stressed the necessity of upholding the principle of partnership and ensuring that Libyan national institutions are included in discussions related to the country's affairs.
Furthermore, the Ministry reiterated Libya's commitment to positive and constructive cooperation with neighboring nations and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). It emphasized that such cooperation should aim to enhance regional security and stability and align with the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and stability.
