Tripoli: A delegation from the Libyan House of Representatives is actively participating in the Parliamentary Forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the United Nations. The First Deputy Speaker, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, and Member of Parliament, Rabia Abu Ras, are representing the Libyan Parliamentary Division at the 2026 IPU Parliamentary Forum, which convened yesterday at the UN headquarters in New York City. This event is part of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
According to Libyan News Agency, the forum gathers parliamentarians globally to deliberate on the critical role of parliaments in bolstering the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhancing partnerships between legislative institutions and the United Nations. The objective is to aid in formulating public policies and monitoring international commitments related to the SDGs.
The ongoing forum is structured to elevate the role of national parliaments in supporting the Sustainable Development Agenda. It also serves as a platform for exchanging experiences and parliamentary practices that are pivotal in achieving development goals across national, regional, and international dimensions.
