Libya Urges Global Efforts to Tackle Human Trafficking and Support Human Rights

New York:Libya has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and the international human rights framework, emphasizing the integration of peace, security, and sustainable development to foster stable and inclusive societies.

According to Libyan News Agency, the statement was delivered by First Secretary Ahmed Al-Draidi at Libya's Permanent Mission to the UN during the Third Committee proceedings of the UN General Assembly. This session, focused on social, humanitarian, and cultural affairs, took place at the UN headquarters.

The statement outlined Libya's national initiatives, including the implementation of the National Youth Strategy in collaboration with the UN, efforts to empower women in political and economic spheres, and the integration of the elderly and disabled into social protection systems. It also mentioned a joint plan with UNICEF to safeguard children and the upcoming second phase of the National Plan to Combat Child Labor.

Libya called on the international community to enhance cooperation in fighting human trafficking and migrant smuggling, emphasizing the dismantling of transnational criminal networks. The focus is on building national capacities and protecting victims through a human rights-based approach.

The country also highlighted its engagement with UN mechanisms, particularly the Universal Periodic Review, and its support for transitional justice and national reconciliation to uphold the rule of law and judicial independence.

Furthermore, Libya urged for decisive international measures to combat rising hate speech, incitement, and religious intolerance in digital spaces, rejecting all forms of discrimination while respecting cultural and religious specificities globally.

In conclusion, Libya reiterated its enduring support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, advocating for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. It stressed the importance of providing full support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees to continue its humanitarian efforts.
