Tripoli: Libya and Nigeria have reaffirmed their dedication to bolstering African coordination and praised the reopening of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) headquarters in Tripoli. The Libyan and Nigerian representatives underscored the significance of ongoing consultation and collaboration within the African Union's frameworks to tackle regional and global challenges with a spirit of unity and effective partnership.
According to Libyan News Agency, this commitment was highlighted during a meeting between Taher Al-Baour, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya's Government of National Unity, and Bianca Odumejo-Ojukwu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on July 28 and 29, 2026.
The discussions between the two sides focused on evaluating the trajectory of bilateral relations between Libya and Nigeria and identifying avenues for development to serve mutual interests, especially in political and economic spheres. They also explored ways to enhance cooperation and exchange between pertinent institutions in both nations.
The meeting further delved into various issues of shared interest within the African continent, exchanging perspectives on the key challenges confronting the region. Emphasis was placed on the need for intensified coordination among African countries to support developmental initiatives and bolster security and stability.
