Cairo: Taher Al-Baour, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, have signed an agreement in Cairo to settle Libya’s arrears in the Arab League’s General Secretariat budget. This agreement was concluded during a meeting at the General Secretariat headquarters on the sidelines of the 163rd regular session of the League’s Council at the level of foreign ministers.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced via its Facebook page that this agreement underscores Libya’s commitment to supporting joint Arab action and fulfilling its institutional obligations. The meeting also covered discussions on the developments in Libya and explored ways through which the Arab League could support a Libyan-led political settlement process, characterized by independence and free from foreign interference. Discussions included mechanisms to enhance the League’s role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability and building institutions in Libya.
During the meeting, Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed the Arab League’s commitment to its responsibilities toward Libya. He reiterated the League’s readiness to accompany the Libyan people as they seek consensual solutions that align with their aspirations for security and development.
