Tripoli: The United States, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom have collectively reiterated their dedication to aiding the Libyan populace in their pursuit of unity, stability, and prosperity, as well as in achieving a durable and comprehensive peace within the nation.
According to Libyan News Agency, the US Embassy in Libya publicized a joint statement from these countries on its Facebook page. The statement expressed approval for the Security Council’s decision to extend the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and praised the roadmap presented by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh. The nations urged all Libyan factions to embrace this plan and the facilitation efforts by the Mission to propel a distinctly Libyan political process that leads to a consolidated government and the conduct of national elections.
The declaration underscored the countries’ dedication to bolstering military and economic coordination among Libyan factions in the east and west, while welcoming endeavors to integrate security forces. The nations called upon Libyan leaders to take additional measures to broaden and formalize this coordination, thereby setting the stage for military unification.
The statement highlighted the significance of fortifying national economic institutions, notably the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the Central Bank of Libya, and the Audit Bureau. It lauded the appointment of an official NOC chairman by September 29th and the signing of the Unified Development Program on November 18th by representatives from the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, recognizing these actions as vital for steering Libya towards more sustainable economic policies.
The nations explained that these initiatives would aid in the implementation of NOC programs aimed at boosting production and supporting economic growth, enhancing the stability of the Central Bank of Libya and public finances, and executing development projects across various regions within an agreed oversight framework.
