Rome-Italian care-taker Government Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini said Libya is a country of main interest to Italy not only as far as the energy sector is concerned, but also for issues related to Italian security, and Italy still needs to have an imprint in Libya).

The Italian news agency Nova reported that Guerini made the remarks before a joint committee of the joint foreign and defense committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate on Tuesday.

“Libya (a hotspot of instability and illicit trafficking emanating from the Sahel region, and among the elements of concern within the North African country, is the continued presence of mercenaries and foreign militias and the new political-institutional stalemate, which could be a harbinger of new conflicts and clashes between different factions on the ground,” harbinger said.
