Tripoli: The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has officially announced that Saturday, August 16, will be the date for municipal council elections in 51 municipalities across Libya. This marks the electoral process for Group Two municipalities, as set by HNEC.

According to Libyan News Agency, the HNEC released a statement on its official page indicating that it had made 23 decisions to advance various stages of the electoral process, despite facing significant challenges. Notably, the commission disqualified 60 candidates and four lists from participating in the elections due to their failure to meet endorsement requirements.

The voting is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m. on the designated day. The HNEC emphasized the importance of halting all electoral propaganda activities and observing electoral silence starting Friday, August 15.

The commission urged candidates, both individuals and lists, to promptly appoint and register their representatives following the prescribed procedures. It also issued a warning against engaging in any form of electoral propaganda on election day, underscoring its commitment to enforce legal measures against any breaches of its regulations and executive procedures.

Additionally, the HNEC called upon organizations that have completed their registration and accreditation to monitor the voting process, to adhere to the guidelines for monitoring, maintain neutrality, and avoid becoming involved in any competition outside the ballot boxes.
