HNEC and CDA Leaders Discuss Constitutional Referendum Mechanisms

Tripoli: The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, recently engaged in discussions with the Chairman of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly (CDA), Imraj Ali Nouh, at the HNEC headquarters in Tripoli. The meeting centered around the ongoing constitutional process in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, the discussions primarily focused on the referendum concerning the draft constitution. Both parties explored ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the Commission and the CDA, aiming to strengthen the democratic process in Libya. The leaders emphasized the importance of establishing a solid constitutional foundation to facilitate upcoming electoral obligations.

Al-Sayeh highlighted the crucial role of the CDA in formulating constitutional principles. He pointed out that a consensual constitution is essential for ensuring free and fair elections. Al-Sayeh reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to providing the necessary technical and advisory support to make the referendum process successful.

Imraj Ali Nouh commended the HNEC’s efforts in supporting Libya’s electoral process. He underscored the need for ongoing coordination between the two bodies to realize the Libyan people’s aspirations for a state governed by law and institutions.
