Tripoli: The High Council of State has announced its rejection of the House of Representatives' recent vote to finalize the High National Elections Commission and to increase the salaries of the Libyan army.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Council emphasized its adherence to an agreement made between the committees of the two councils. This agreement calls for a complete overhaul of the Commission's board to ensure its independence and to foster trust in the electoral process. The goal is to adequately prepare for fair and transparent elections that will bring an end to the continuous transitional periods.
The High Council of State further stated that any unilateral actions affecting this crucial national issue would breach the political consensus and undermine the partnership foundations between the two councils. Such actions, they noted, would only serve to deepen divisions and disrupt the political process.
The Council also voiced its disapproval of the proposed salary increase for the Libyan army, citing the financial strain it would impose on the public budget amidst current economic conditions. The Council reiterated its commitment to a unified salary scale that ensures fairness among all state employees, both civilian and military.
