Tripoli: The High Council of State has announced the establishment of a technical committee aimed at diagnosing the ongoing electricity crisis. This committee, which will consist of specialists, is tasked with preparing a thorough and precise report on the crisis, complete with recommendations and proposals to tackle its causes and improve the efficiency of the electricity sector.
According to Libyan News Agency, this decision emerged from a meeting convened in Tripoli, presided over by Council President Mohamed Takala. The meeting was also attended by First Vice President Naji Mukhtar, Second Vice President Omar Boushah, and Rapporteur Belkacem Dabrez. The session focused on the latest developments in the electricity crisis and the critical challenges facing the General Electricity Company. The Council's media office reported that this is part of an ongoing effort to oversee public policies and essential services impacting citizens' lives.
President Takala commenced the session by briefing attendees on the current state of the electricity crisis, identifying key obstacles that hinder the sector's performance enhancement. He stressed the necessity of implementing sustainable solutions that would not only increase production capacity but also enhance the stability of the public grid, ultimately leading to improved service levels.
First Deputy Speaker Naji Mukhtar highlighted the essential function of oversight bodies and the Attorney General's Office in scrutinizing the General Electricity Company's operations. He suggested reaching out to relevant authorities to request a comprehensive report on the electricity sector's condition, which would bolster the Council's oversight and advisory roles.
Additionally, the Council resolved that the committee responsible for overseeing the National Oil Corporation would persist in its efforts concerning the oil and gas sectors. This committee is expected to present a detailed report of its findings and recommendations to the Council.
