Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ali Hamieh, on Monday affirmed in a press conference held at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation that “the airport is operating normally today, and there have been no issues regarding flights.”

‘Almost 70 percent of the airport screens are now functioning as before, while work is ongoing sequentially on the remaining ones,’ Hamieh added.

Beirut airport faced a cyber-attack that compromised the flight information display system on Sunday. Throughout the airport, screens displayed a message directed towards “Hezbollah and Iran’.

“We are an official administration, and it’s incumbent upon us to activate cybersecurity. What occurred is not a result of negligence. Some damage occurred, and efforts are underway to rectify it,” the Minister affirmed.

“We have taken precautionary measures; we have disconnected the internet from the airport to isolate the damage,” he continued.

Responding to a query about ident
ifying the nature of the breach, Hamieh stated, “We are collaborating with specialized security agencies, and an answer will be provided within days to determine whether the breach was internal or external.”

“Today’s challenge is to implement comprehensive measures and secure the funding for them to prevent a recurrence of what happened, ensuring 99 percent security,’ Hamieh concluded.
