Benghazi: The General Electricity Company has declared a state of emergency in response to sandstorms that have impacted multiple cities and regions across the country. The severe weather conditions have particularly affected the electrical grid components in Benghazi and several areas in the east, central, and western regions.
According to Libyan News Agency, the company's Chairman of the Board, Mohammed Al-Mashay, is actively overseeing the situation through the emergency operations center. The company has mobilized all available technical and human resources to manage any emergencies resulting from the weather conditions.
In a statement, the company outlined that directives have been given to all relevant departments to commence necessary repair and maintenance work as soon as conditions improve. This initiative is aimed at ensuring the safety of employees and maintaining the stability and continuity of the electrical grid services.
The company has also urged citizens to avoid interacting with damaged or hanging electrical wires and to stay clear of locations suspected of grid damage, due to the significant safety risks involved. Cooperation from the public is requested, with an emphasis on promptly reporting any malfunctions or observations through official channels to safeguard lives and property.
