Tripoli: The French representative to the Security Council has called on Libyan authorities to collaborate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to execute all outstanding arrest warrants. The representative emphasized the importance of this cooperation, noting that France is ready to engage with Libya and assist the ICC in facilitating its operations within the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, the French representative highlighted that while Libya is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, it has nonetheless permitted the ICC to function within its borders. During a Security Council session discussing the ICC Prosecutor’s report on Libya, he stressed the necessity for the voices of victims in Libya to be heard and urged the Libyan authorities to comply with the ICC’s arrest warrants.
The French representative also acknowledged the progress achieved by the ICC in the Libyan context, specifically mentioning the arrest of Khaled al-Hishri. Al-Hishri was apprehended in Germany on charges related to war crimes in Tripoli. The representative underscored the importance of ensuring that the Court’s work is not hindered in any way.
