French and Libyan Officials Discuss Technical Cooperation for Upcoming Elections

Tripoli: The electoral commission and the French foreign ministry are discussing ways to enhance technical cooperation to ensure the success of the upcoming elections. The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, received Alexi Andres, Assistant Director of the North Africa and Middle East Department at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, at the HNEC headquarters in Tripoli on Thursday. The French Ambassador to Libya, Thierry Vallat, accompanied Mr. Andres.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on the latest preparations for the electoral process in the country, particularly the municipal council elections (third group, 2025), as well as the upcoming general elections. During the meeting, Mr. Al-Sayeh reviewed the HNEC’s readiness in terms of technical and logistical aspects, and the progress made in training and distributing election materials. He emphasized the HNEC’s commitment to conducting transparent elections that adhere to international standards.

For his part, Mr. Andres commended the HNEC’s efforts in organizing the upcoming elections, affirming his country’s readiness to provide the necessary technical support and expertise to enhance the success of the electoral process and strengthen voter confidence. The meeting concluded with an affirmation of continued coordination between the HNEC and the French side, contributing to the support of the democratic process and the success of the upcoming elections.
