France asked the Nigerien security forces to take the necessary measures to ensure the security of foreign diplomatic missions in it, especially those of France.
France's request comes hours before scheduled demonstrations in the capital, Niamey, on Thursday.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that France would like to remind that the security of diplomatic headquarters and personnel are obligations under international law, in particular the Vienna Convention.
For its part, Britain will temporarily reduce the number of workers at the British Embassy in Niamey.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement: "There is a military coup in Niger that leads to protests and unrest."
It added, "The group that organized the demonstration on July 30 called for another demonstration on the third day of August, which coincides with Niger's independence day. Protests may witness violence, and the situation can change quickly without warning."
During the past few days, Niger witnessed violent demonstrations in support of the military coup, which saw officers from the elite unit of General Omar Chiani overthrow President Mohamed Bazoum last Wednesday.
