Electricity Company Undertakes Urgent Maintenance and Strategic Projects to Boost Power Grid Stability

Tripoli: The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) is actively engaged in emergency maintenance efforts to address faults and restore power across various regions while also advancing strategic initiatives in power transmission and generation. These efforts aim to bolster the stability of the electrical grid and enhance the efficiency of Libya's power system.

According to Libyan News Agency, the company announced via its official page that operational tests are being conducted at the Gulf Gas Receiving and Metering Station. These trials are a precursor to utilizing natural gas instead of diesel fuel at the Gulf Steam Power Plant in Sirte. This shift is expected to improve production efficiency, lower operational costs, and enhance environmental performance in collaboration with the National Oil Corporation.

In the realm of power transmission, GECOL's technical teams are progressing with the installation of towers for the 400 kV West Tripoli-Al-Tibah power transmission line project. This initiative is designed to increase transmission capacity to the national grid, addressing the rising demand for electricity.

Rapid response teams from the Ain Zara Distribution Department are actively repairing faults on the Producers line, sourced from the 220 Diplomatic substation, to restore power to impacted regions. Simultaneously, teams from the Tajoura Industrial Zone Distribution Department are conducting emergency repairs on a damaged cable that led to outages in parts of the Four Streets Electricity and Al-Nuzha areas towards Al-Naam.

In other maintenance efforts, teams have restored power to residences in the Al-Baaish and Abisa Street areas, alongside work on the Al-Hamidiya line fed from the 30 Al-Kasih substation, which included replacing fire-damaged insulators.

The General Electricity Company has affirmed that its technical teams are dedicated to ongoing maintenance work and addressing emergency faults to ensure the electrical grid's stability and an uninterrupted power supply across all regions.
