Cairo: The Republic of Egypt welcomed Portugal’s announcement of its intention to recognize the Palestinian state, describing it as “a historic step that reflects the growing international support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, contiguous state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this growing international support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state demonstrates “the justness of the Palestinian cause and the increasing international commitment to redress the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people and to uphold their right to self-determination and their basic human rights.”

Egypt reiterated that “there is no alternative to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict except through a settlement based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in order to achieve peace, security, and stability for all the peoples of the region, in accordance with international resolutions.”

Additionally, Egypt urged those countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take this step “in the interest of humanity and justice.”
