They emphasized the importance of ending the division and stressed the need for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, this joint declaration emerged from the trilateral El Alamein Summit, which convened Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the Egyptian city of El Alamein. The leaders underscored their support for United Nations efforts to expedite presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya, emphasizing respect for national institutions to maintain the country's unity and sovereignty.
In a joint press conference following the summit, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi highlighted discussions with his Cypriot and Greek counterparts regarding the Libyan situation. He reiterated the importance of a 'Libyan-Libyan' process to ensure simultaneous elections, respect national institutions, and conclude the division within the country.
El-Sisi also called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libya, emphasizing the need to preserve its unity and sovereignty while addressing the security and interests of its people.
As the summit concluded, the three leaders expressed their commitment to fostering peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, affirming their ongoing coordination and cooperation on regional issues of mutual interest.
