Dbeibah Emphasizes New Phase in Libya-Syria Relations

Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity received Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and his delegation on Sunday, aiming to strengthen communication between Libya and Syria and explore ways to develop bilateral relations.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Prime Minister's media office reported that the meeting focused on reactivating Libyan-Syrian cooperation frameworks, raising the level of diplomatic representation, and revitalizing the Joint Higher Committee's work. Discussions also included economic, investment, and trade cooperation, addressing several outstanding financial issues and dues between institutions in both countries.

The two sides also examined security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts, the situation of the two communities and consular services, and the cases of prisoners, detainees, refugees, and internally displaced persons. The reopening of the Syrian consulate in Benghazi was also a topic of discussion.

During the meeting, Dbeibah emphasized the importance of initiating a new phase in Libyan-Syrian relations, focusing on shared interests and practical cooperation, and resolving outstanding issues to benefit the citizens of both countries.
