Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba has called for the creation of a specialized team to develop a comprehensive plan that outlines the actual fuel needs of the nation. He emphasized the importance of the fuel sector, advocating for a clear mechanism and methodology to guarantee the supply of fuel at reasonable prices and with high quality. Dabaiba also stressed the importance of transparency, financial discipline, and enhanced system management to achieve consistent supply stability.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Prime Minister's remarks came during a meeting held at his office, attended by key figures including the Head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, Masoud Suleiman. The gathering focused on the fuel sector and explored methods for controlling and regulating supply operations.
Dabaiba called for a joint team consisting of relevant authorities to draft a comprehensive plan that accurately identifies fuel needs and determines the best mechanisms to secure its delivery. The aim is to prevent smuggling and any violations that could impact this critical sector. The discussion also addressed the need to strengthen oversight of the gasoline supply system and tackle technical and administrative challenges to maintain a continuous and regular flow of supplies, thus preventing shortages that could affect citizens.
The head of the Audit Bureau highlighted the Bureau's crucial oversight role in the fuel sector, involving the review of procurement, contracting, and expenditure procedures to ensure integrity and protect public funds. He noted that the Bureau works in an institutional partnership with the government, promoting cooperation and integration to support reform efforts, enhance transparency, and regulate financial and administrative performance, ultimately ensuring the continuity of fuel supplies.
At the meeting's conclusion, attendees underscored the importance of activating joint monitoring and oversight mechanisms and establishing clear procedures to ensure fuel reaches its intended recipients. This would contribute to market stability and serve the public interest.
