Beirut: The Ministry of Culture announced in a statement that an interview with a former MP is circulating on social media, in which he makes unfounded allegations regarding Baalbek Castle, particularly regarding the presence of material belonging to a political party.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, the statement clarified that this claim is false and untrue. The General Directorate of Antiquities at the Ministry of Culture confirmed that Lebanese security forces are the only ones present inside Baalbek Castle and are protecting it. It stated that the Baalbek site bears the Blue Shield symbol and has been included on the list of protected sites, in accordance with Protocol II of the Hague Convention.
The Ministry of Culture hopes that everyone will consult it regularly for any information regarding its archaeological sites free of suspicious material.
