Zawiya: The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, conducted a field visit today to the Electoral Administration Office in Zawiya, as well as several polling stations in the municipalities under its jurisdiction. The purpose of this visit was to inspect the progress of the electoral process and ensure its smooth operation in the municipalities of Zawiya, Sabratha, and Surman.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Sayeh was accompanied by key officials, including the Director of the Security Operations Department at the Ministry of Interior, the Director of the Technical Department at the Internal Security Service, the Head of the Electoral Administration Office in Zawiya, and security coordinators from the Internal Security Service and the Ministry of Interior.
The Commission stated that the visit was part of efforts to support the electoral process, which commenced today in the municipalities of Zawiya Central, Zawiya West, Zawiya North, Downtown Zawiya, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam. This follows the postponement of voting last Saturday due to an attack on the Zawiya office on Friday, August 15.
During the tour, Al-Sayeh acknowledged the work of the Electoral Administration Office staff in Zawiya and the contributions of local leaders and citizens in supporting the electoral process. He commended the citizens for their commitment to completing the national election in a dignified manner and maintaining stability in the municipalities.
Al-Sayeh reiterated the Commission’s dedication to upholding the rights of voters and candidates, ensuring a conducive environment for democratic expression through voting. He stressed that the Commission would not tolerate any acts of violence or sabotage, emphasizing that such actions would not hinder the Commission’s national mission.
Additionally, Al-Sayeh visited polling stations in Surman and Sabratha, where he observed the electoral process alongside security officials in the region.
