Tripoli: Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, has submitted a request to be relieved of his position. This information comes from two letters he addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the High Council of State. The reasons behind Issa's request remain undisclosed, with the governor citing the sensitivity of the circumstances surrounding the matter.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Central Bank of Libya has not yet released an official statement regarding Issa's request. However, Mohamed Takala, President of the High Council of State, has urged Issa to continue his role. Issa, who took up his duties as governor in October 2024, is being called upon to maintain his responsibilities, particularly in regulating and monitoring financial transactions conducted by commercial banks to safeguard the country's monetary and financial stability.

Takala emphasized that Issa's request comes at a critical time for Libya's economy, which requires the preservation of monetary and financial stability and the continued functioning of state institutions. Takala's statement, as reported by media outlets, underscores the necessity for Issa to focus on controlling expenditures and preventing violations related to public spending and the use of foreign currency.

Takala further explained that Issa should continue fulfilling his duties until the resignation request is reviewed and necessary actions are taken according to constitutional and legal procedures.
