Green mountain: A cargo ship sank on Sunday off the coast of the Green Mountain in eastern Libya. The Ports and Maritime Transport Authority of the Ministry of Transportation in the Government of National Unity announced the incident, revealing that the ship was en route to the port of Sidon in Lebanon when it met its fate.

According to Libyan News Agency, the department communicated the incident in a letter addressed to various maritime and security bodies, including the Naval Forces General Staff, the Coast Guard and Port Security Authority, and the Search and Rescue Coordination Center. The letter also reached companies involved with commercial, oil, and free zone ports, ship owners and operators, the General Directorate of Coastal Security at the Ministry of Interior, and the Chamber of Maritime Navigation.

The letter detailed a report received last Sunday at 15:03 concerning a maritime safety issue. It included information about the Mini Star (MV Star), a cargo ship registered in Saint Kitts and Nevis (IMO number: IM N08215613). By 16:16, the ship had begun to sink approximately 20 nautical miles north of the Green Mountain region, at the coordinates latitude 3406°N and longitude 091947°E.

The ship was carrying a cargo of machinery, heavy equipment, and marble. Fortunately, all eleven crew members aboard were successfully rescued. They were transported to Malta by the M/V GOLDEN BELJIN, which assisted in the rescue operation.
